Overwatch World Cup: social media highlights

Who was most talked about on social media during the tournament?

HQ

The Overwatch World Cup took place over the weekend, with South Korea taking the title without dropping a game, fending off opposition from Russia in the final. As expected with such a high profile tournament, social media had a lot to say about it, and statistics from Observify have revealed what has been talked about the most.

To start with, the most talked about hero was Genji, which was presumably helped in no small part by the final, where ShaDowBurn and ArHan used the hero extensively in order to wreak havoc. Genji was closely followed by Winston and Reinhardt, the former of which was effectively used by South Korea's Gong 'Miro' Jin Hyuk.

Unsurprisingly, the most talked about team in the tournament was South Korea, who dominated the tournament and proved a formidable force throughout. This is followed by Russia, who had a very impressive tournament still despite a wobbly start against France.

The most internet mentions about the World Cup came on Saturday, with almost 32,000 mentions, and since October 26 there have been a whopping 152,000 mentions of the Overwatch World Cup on the internet, the top source of which is Reddit, where 48% of the measured mentions come from. In terms of where the mentions come from, 79.2% are from the USA, with 2.6% coming from the UK.

Focussing solely on social media, though, 95% of the mentions come from Twitter, with YouTube and Instagram also contributing smaller numbers.

Ci sono voluti 18 anni prima che Blizzard si lanciasse in una nuova IP. Ma n'è valsa davvero la pena tutta questa attesa.
