Starting tomorrow, January 11, the inaugural eFootball League will get underway, with the first round of online matches starting the ball rolling on a competition that should be settled at a live event in May, which is due to take place at a still-to-be-determined football ground.

There are going to be two divisions - PS4 and Xbox One - and the first round of matches will take place online. According to the organisers there'll be players/teams from England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Italy, Holland, Switzerland, Spain, Belgium, Germany and Northern Ireland, and they'll be playing FIFA 18's Ultimate Team mode.

Global eLeagues are partnering with Goal for the competition - which you can watch here and keep track of here - and the inaugural event will have a prize pool of $10,000.

eFootball League's Geoff Wilson had this to say: "eSports is growing at a phenomenal rate world-wide and the clubs involved are demonstrating an innovative approach to growing the brand of their clubs online. The eFootball League is an exciting new concept and we hope to attract new fans for not only the league but all the clubs involved."
