He beat the seven-time champ Jonas Neubauer.

Tetris isn't the first game that people think of when esports is mentioned, but it does indeed have a competitive community that just celebrated the Classic Tetris World Championships at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo, seeing 16-year-old Joseph Saelee take home the crown.

Saelee won $1,000 USD for his troubles, but perhaps it'll mean more for him to beat the legendary Jonas Neubauer, who has won the event seven times in the past and has become a household name in the scene. As if this wasn't enough, on his road to the final Saelee also defeated Japanese champion Koryan.

When interviewed after the final Neubauer was asked what the future holds and whether this means a departure from the scene, but it doesn't look like it, as he said: "I see myself here next year."
