Dragon Quest di Square Enix è una serie così popolare in Giappone che i titoli principali devono essere pubblicati di domenica per permettere alle persone di continuare a lavorare, visto l'enorme entusiasmo che accompagna il lancio di ogni nuovo capitolo. Anche Final Fantasy è incredibilmente popolare, ma sembra che, almeno in patria, l'amata serie fantasy non riesca a tenere lo stesso passo di Dragon Quest.
E la conferma di quanto diciamo arriva a seguito di un sondaggio condotto dalla popolare rivista Famitsu (via Nintendo Everything), in cui - anche in vista del lancio di Dragon Quest XI per Nintendo 3DS e Final Fantasy XV per PS4 - hanno domandato ai giocatori quali sono i loro giochi più attesi del 2016.
