La seconda edizione dei Game Awards (precedentemente noti come i Video Game Awards) ha decretato i vincitori selezionati da una giuria di esperti. La manifestazione ha visto ufficialmente il trionfo del massiccio titolo RPG di CD Projekt Red, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, che ha letteralmente rubato la scena per gran parte della serata, conquistandosi sia il titolo di GOTY sia di Developer of the Year, tra i premi collezionati. Sebbene il titolo Konami, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, sia andato molto bene, Hideo Kojima non ha potuto partecipare alla manifestazione, lasciando che l'attore Kiefer Sutherland (interprete di Venom Snake) ritirasse il premio al suo posto.
